Tom Holland’s record-breaking Marvel blockbuster continues its historic run, becoming only the second film ever to surpass $1 billion globally in under a week.

A Historic Box Office Run

Sony Pictures

The latest Spider-Man adventure has wasted no time establishing itself as one of cinema’s biggest commercial successes.

Following its record-breaking $360 million domestic opening weekend—which officially surpassed Avengers: Endgame‘s previous record of $357.1 million—Brand New Day has continued to dominate theaters around the world.

Its $1.05 billion global total after just six days trails only Endgame, which reached $1.2 billion during its opening weekend in 2019.

Record After Record

Marvel Studios

The latest milestone adds to an already remarkable list of achievements for Sony’s superhero blockbuster.

Brand New Day has now delivered:

  • The biggest domestic opening weekend in box office history
  • The largest Thursday preview grosses ever
  • The biggest Friday opening day in domestic history
  • Sony Pictures’ biggest opening of all time
  • The second-fastest climb to $1 billion worldwide

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film was produced on a reported $225 million budget and has quickly become one of the studio’s most successful releases ever.

Audiences Continue to Drive Momentum

While the box office numbers are staggering, audience reception has been equally impressive.

The film currently holds an A CinemaScore alongside a remarkable 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, reflecting overwhelmingly positive word-of-mouth as moviegoers continue to fuel its record-breaking run.

The success of Brand New Day arrives at a pivotal moment for Marvel Studios.

Following years of debate surrounding superhero fatigue, Tom Holland’s latest outing has reaffirmed Spider-Man’s position as one of the industry’s most reliable theatrical brands while generating renewed momentum ahead of Avengers: Doomsday later this year.

With audiences continuing to turn out in record numbers, Brand New Day is now positioned to become one of the highest-grossing superhero films of all time—and its run may only be getting started.
