Festival coverage stays in-house. This role is where daily volume and beat depth come from.

Applicants select one primary beat. Assignments are made within that lane. This is not a general write-about-anything role.

The Role

What you would do

  • Write daily and breaking news, reviews and analysis within your beat, in TCG’s editorial voice.
  • Reviews run day-of-release on wide theatrical or streaming titles. Never early access, never framed as festival coverage.
  • Contribute awards season predictions and race analysis as the calendar develops.
  • Provide a menu of alternate pull-quotes with published reviews, formatted for press and FYC use.
  • Fact-check, source images, and format posts ready for publishing.
  • Pitch original story ideas within your beat.
  • Follow TCG house style after a short onboarding period.
Paid per published piece. Rate confirmed at offer stage. Full byline on thecinemagroup.co and across TCG’s social platforms. No festival travel, no press credentials required.
What We Need

Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of your chosen beat. Published clips required.
  • A distinct voice. We are not looking for synopsis writers or wire-copy rewrites.
  • Fast and accurate, comfortable with same-day turnaround on breaking stories.
  • 1+ years of relevant coverage. Professional clips or serious independent bylines are both fine, including Muck Rack, Substack or a personal blog.
  • Excellent written English.
  • An independent following in a relevant niche is a significant plus. Candidates who can bring or grow an audience are considered for a higher flat rate.
