Our Golden Globes 2027 predictions put The Odyssey out front with 10 nominations, before the genre calls are even in.
Our Golden Globes 2027 predictions arrive with a month of strategy still to play out. Studios have until October 30 to submit their films, and the most important decision each one makes is not about campaigns or screenings. It is about genre. Nominations for the 84th Golden Globes will be announced Monday, December 7, and Nikki Glaser returns to host the ceremony on Sunday, January 10, 2027, on CBS and Paramount+.
The Globes split their top film prize into drama and musical or comedy, with separate lead acting races on each side, and that line has always been drawn by strategy as much as tone. The Martian once won best comedy. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood won it too. Language is no longer a barrier at the top either. Emilia Perez won musical or comedy in 2025, which is why La Bola Negra, the Spanish-language epic from Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, can contend for best drama this year while also leading the non-English race.
Drama or Comedy: The Decisions Still to Come
The sorting has already started. Focus Features is submitting Curry Barker’s horror hit Obsession as a comedy, which moves breakout star Inde Navarrette into the same lead actress race as Julianne Moore. Lionsgate has not decided where to run Michael, and music biopics have gone both ways. Rami Malek and Austin Butler won drama actor for Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis, while Joaquin Phoenix won on the comedy side for Walk the Line. Amazon MGM Studios has the hardest puzzle of all, with Project Hail Mary, I Play Rocky and Bassam Tariq’s Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother all able to claim drama. Our bet is that Project Hail Mary moves to comedy so the studio does not split its own vote.
The calendar is the other wild card. Nomination ballots go out November 24 and are due December 4, and December 2 is the last day for films to upload to the Globes’ screening platform. Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday both open December 18, which means either one would have to screen for voters more than two weeks before release to compete.
These are our picks in all 15 film categories as of today, with six predicted nominees in each (eight for box office) and the contenders next in line.
Best Motion Picture, Drama

| 12 | Possible Love | Netflix |
| 13 | Paper Tiger | Neon |
| 14 | Ink | Netflix |
| 15 | Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother | Amazon MGM Studios |
Frontrunner: The Odyssey. Christopher Nolan‘s epic is the only drama with reviews, more than $1.6 billion worldwide and a deep acting slate all at once, and we project it for 10 nominations, more than any other film. La Bola Negra is the most dangerous challenger. It won the People’s Choice Award at TIFF four months after Los Javis shared the directing prize at Cannes.
Dune: Part Three is still unseen, though it has reportedly begun small private screenings. Fjord brings the Palme d’Or, and I Play Rocky finished right behind La Bola Negra in Toronto. Elsinore takes the last slot on the strength of Andrew Scott.
Laika is reportedly submitting Wildwood in drama as well as animation, a first for a stop-motion film. We love the ambition. We think it lands just outside, alongside Mike Leigh’s Tender Loving Care, which he has said will be his final film.
Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy

| Rank | Film | Distributor |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | The Debut | A24 |
| 2 | Wild Horse Nine | Searchlight Pictures |
| 3 | The Invite | A24 |
| 4 | Project Hail Mary | Amazon MGM Studios |
| 5 | The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth | Netflix |
| 6 | Michael | Lionsgate |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Club Kid | A24 |
| 8 | Obsession | Focus Features |
| 9 | Tony | A24 |
| 10 | The Drama | A24 |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Digger | Warner Bros. |
| 12 | The Devil Wears Prada 2 | 20th Century Studios |
| 13 | Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma | Mubi |
| 14 | Focker-in-Law | Universal Pictures |
| 15 | The Sheep Detectives | Amazon MGM Studios |
Frontrunner: The Debut. Jesse Eisenberg‘s musical comedy is the most beloved film of the fall and the only real musical in the race, and that combination has historically been hard to beat in this category. Wild Horse Nine is a close second. Martin McDonagh already won here with The Banshees of Inisherin, and John Malkovich just took the Volpi Cup at Venice.
For the third straight year, comedy looks deeper than drama. The Invite is poised to compete across the board. Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood won this prize, and its sequel, now directed by David Fincher, gets the benefit of the doubt. Project Hail Mary and Michael are both here on the assumption that their studios choose comedy.
Obsession is confirmed for this side, and it has grossed more than $400 million worldwide. It is the hardest omission on our list. Jordan Firstman’s Club Kid, which we called the best New York movie in years, is right behind it.
Best Director

| Rank | Director | Film |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | Christopher Nolan | The Odyssey |
| 2 | Denis Villeneuve | Dune: Part Three |
| 3 | Martin McDonagh | Wild Horse Nine |
| 4 | Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi | La Bola Negra |
| 5 | Jesse Eisenberg | The Debut |
| 6 | Olivia Wilde | The Invite |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Phil Lord and Chris Miller | Project Hail Mary |
| 8 | Mike Leigh | Tender Loving Care |
| 9 | Lee Chang-dong | Possible Love |
| 10 | Cristian Mungiu | Fjord |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Ryusuke Hamaguchi | All of a Sudden |
| 12 | David Fincher | The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth |
| 13 | Alejandro G. Inarritu | Digger |
| 14 | Simon Stone | Elsinore |
| 15 | Lance Oppenheim | Primetime |
Frontrunner: Nolan, who won this Globe for Oppenheimer and has the year’s biggest canvas. Villeneuve is the one name that could overtake him, but only if Dune: Part Three screens in time.
Wilde is the pick we feel strongest about outside the top two. The Globes love a performer who directs, and she could end the night with nominations in directing, lead actress and possibly supporting actress for Behemoth! Calvo and Ambrossi would join a long line of non-English directors the Globes have honored in this category.
Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama

| Rank | Performer | Film |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | Andrew Scott | Elsinore |
| 2 | Matt Damon | The Odyssey |
| 3 | Robert Pattinson | Primetime |
| 4 | John Turturro | The Only Living Pickpocket in New York |
| 5 | Anthony Ippolito | I Play Rocky |
| 6 | Sebastian Stan | Fjord |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Pedro Pascal | Behemoth! |
| 8 | Mahershala Ali | Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother |
| 9 | Javier Bardem | Bunker |
| 10 | Aaron Taylor-Johnson | Werwulf |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Timothee Chalamet | Dune: Part Three |
| 12 | Jack O’Connell | Ink |
| 13 | Miles Teller | Paper Tiger |
| 14 | David Corenswet | Mr. Irrelevant |
| 15 | Fred Hechinger | A Long Winter |
Frontrunner: Scott, playing Ian Charleson in Simon Stone’s Elsinore. It is the least divided lead performance of the fall. Damon is the steadiest name in a Best Actor race with nine real contenders.
Pattinson has four films this year, and his turn as Chris Hansen in Primetime is his clearest path. Ippolito, our breakout of TIFF, gets in if Amazon keeps I Play Rocky in drama. Pascal is the name to watch on Friday, when Behemoth! premieres as the New York Film Festival’s centerpiece. Timothee Chalamet sits just outside until Dune: Part Three is seen.
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama

| Rank | Performer | Film |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | Sandra Huller | Rose |
| 2 | Emily Blunt | Disclosure Day |
| 3 | Lea Seydoux | Gentle Monster |
| 4 | Renate Reinsve | Fjord |
| 5 | Rosalind Eleazar | Misty Green |
| 6 | Marion Bailey | Tender Loving Care |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Sandra Huller | Fatherland |
| 8 | Ruth Madeley | Being Heumann |
| 9 | Penelope Cruz | Bunker |
| 10 | Virginie Efira | All of a Sudden |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Carrie Coon | The Liberation |
| 12 | Daisy Edgar-Jones | Sense and Sensibility |
| 13 | Mikey Madison | The Social Reckoning |
| 14 | Jeon Do-yeon | Possible Love |
| 15 | Margot Robbie | Wuthering Heights |
Frontrunner: Huller. She has two contenders, Markus Schleinzer’s Rose, which won her the top performance prize in Berlin, and Pawel Pawlikowski’s Fatherland. The rules allow both. We are betting voters consolidate behind Rose.
This is the thinnest of the four lead races, and Obsession moving to comedy makes it thinner. That opens the door for Eleazar, whose work in Misty Green we called the performance of the year out of TIFF. Bailey anchors Leigh’s farewell, and Leigh’s films have a long record of carrying their actresses to awards attention.
A drama win here has become a launchpad. Fernanda Torres and Wagner Moura both won Globes in the drama lead categories after being passed over by the Actor Awards, and both went on to Oscar nominations.

| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | John Malkovich | Wild Horse Nine |
| 2 | Ryan Gosling | Project Hail Mary |
| 3 | Jaafar Jackson | Michael |
| 4 | Brad Pitt | The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth |
| 5 | Seth Rogen | The Invite |
| 6 | Jordan Firstman | Club Kid |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Tom Cruise | Digger |
| 8 | Robert Pattinson | The Drama |
| 9 | Dominic Sessa | Tony |
| 10 | Michael Johnston | Obsession |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Hugh Jackman | The Sheep Detectives |
| 12 | Ian McKellen | The Christophers |
| 13 | Robert De Niro | Focker-in-Law |
| 14 | Ben Stiller | Focker-in-Law |
| 15 | Tom Holland | Spider-Man: Brand New Day |
Frontrunner: Malkovich, fresh off the Volpi Cup and the leader in the Best Actor Oscar market. The genre split is the best thing that could happen to him, because it takes Scott and Damon out of his way.
Gosling won his only Globe on this side for La La Land, and a comedy submission for Project Hail Mary sends him right back. Jackson faces a friendlier lane here than in a crowded drama field. Pitt won a Globe for playing Cliff Booth the first time. We are taking Firstman over Cruise. Digger has split critics down the middle, and the Digger reviews suggest voters will need convincing.
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy

| Rank | Performer | Film |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | Julianne Moore | The Debut |
| 2 | Inde Navarrette | Obsession |
| 3 | Olivia Wilde | The Invite |
| 4 | Zendaya | The Drama |
| 5 | Meryl Streep | The Devil Wears Prada 2 |
| 6 | Anne Hathaway | The Devil Wears Prada 2 |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Ariana Grande | Focker-in-Law |
| 8 | Olivia Colman | Wicker |
| 9 | Hannah Einbinder | Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma |
| 10 | Keke Palmer | I Love Boosters |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Michaela Coel | The Christophers |
| 12 | Anna Kendrick | Babies |
| 13 | Rinko Kikuchi | Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty! |
| 14 | Anne Hathaway | Mother Mary |
| 15 | Dakota Johnson | Verity |
Frontrunner: Moore. Most of the season treats this trophy as hers already, and she leads the Best Actress Oscar market by a wide margin.
The confirmed comedy run for Obsession makes Navarrette the most interesting name in the category. Get Out and The Substance both took the comedy route at the Globes, and Demi Moore won this exact award for The Substance. Navarrette now has to beat a different Moore to do the same.
Streep holds the record for the most Golden Globe nominations of any performer, and Miranda Priestly is made for this category. We are giving Hathaway the final slot for the same film over Grande, though a Meet the Parents sequel is exactly the kind of hit the Globes enjoy rewarding.
Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture

| Rank | Performer | Film |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | Sam Rockwell | Wild Horse Nine |
| 2 | Paul Giamatti | The Debut |
| 3 | Colman Domingo | Michael |
| 4 | John Leguizamo | The Odyssey |
| 5 | Andrew Garfield | Artificial |
| 6 | Guy Pearce | Ink |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Guitarricadelafuente | La Bola Negra |
| 8 | Robert Pattinson | The Odyssey |
| 9 | Edward Norton | The Invite |
| 10 | Steve Buscemi | Wild Horse Nine |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Channing Tatum | Josephine |
| 12 | Adam Driver | Paper Tiger |
| 13 | Jeremy Strong | The Social Reckoning |
| 14 | Skyler Gisondo | Primetime |
| 15 | John Goodman | Digger |
Frontrunner: Rockwell, the other half of the Wild Horse Nine double act and a previous winner in this category for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Giamatti is right behind him and could easily win.
Garfield leads Luca Guadagnino’s Artificial, and Pearce plays Rupert Murdoch in Danny Boyle’s Ink. Guitarricadelafuente, the Spanish singer-songwriter at the center of La Bola Negra, is the closest name outside. Pattinson could still steal a slot from his own Odyssey co-star Leguizamo.
Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture

| Rank | Performer | Film |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | Penelope Cruz | The Invite |
| 2 | Anne Hathaway | The Odyssey |
| 3 | Olivia Colman | Elsinore |
| 4 | Scarlett Johansson | Paper Tiger |
| 5 | Samantha Morton | The Odyssey |
| 6 | Merritt Wever | Primetime |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Gemma Chan | Josephine |
| 8 | Kate O’Flynn | Tender Loving Care |
| 9 | Sandra Huller | Project Hail Mary |
| 10 | Penelope Cruz | La Bola Negra |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Mariana Di Girolamo | Wild Horse Nine |
| 12 | Tao Okamoto | All of a Sudden |
| 13 | Olivia Wilde | Behemoth! |
| 14 | Elizabeth Debicki | The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth |
| 15 | Glenn Close | La Bola Negra |
Frontrunner: Cruz, who has two shots in this category and a third in lead actress for Florian Zeller’s Bunker. The Invite is her strongest bid.
Johansson is a longtime Globes favorite, and James Gray’s Paper Tiger, which opened NYFF as his best film yet, gives her a real platform. Wever is our nomination-morning surprise. Her work in Primetime has been quietly building since Venice.
Best Screenplay

| Rank | Film | Writer(s) |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | Wild Horse Nine | Martin McDonagh |
| 2 | The Invite | Will McCormack and Rashida Jones |
| 3 | The Debut | Jesse Eisenberg |
| 4 | The Odyssey | Christopher Nolan |
| 5 | La Bola Negra | Javier Ambrossi, Javier Calvo and Alberto Conejero |
| 6 | The Social Reckoning | Aaron Sorkin |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Fjord | Cristian Mungiu |
| 8 | Project Hail Mary | Drew Goddard |
| 9 | Tender Loving Care | Mike Leigh |
| 10 | Club Kid | Jordan Firstman |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Ink | James Graham |
| 12 | I Play Rocky | Peter Gamble |
| 13 | Josephine | Beth de Araujo |
| 14 | Bunker | Florian Zeller |
| 15 | Obsession | Curry Barker |
Frontrunner: McDonagh, who has won this Globe twice, for Three Billboards and The Banshees of Inisherin. Sorkin has won it twice too, including for The Social Network, and The Social Reckoning returns him to Facebook. The Globes have only one screenplay category, so original and adapted scripts compete together, which makes every slot harder.
Best Original Score

| Rank | Film | Composer(s) |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | The Odyssey | Ludwig Goransson |
| 2 | Dune: Part Three | Hans Zimmer |
| 3 | Project Hail Mary | Daniel Pemberton |
| 4 | The Debut | Emile Mosseri |
| 5 | La Bola Negra | Raul Refree |
| 6 | Wildwood | Dario Marianelli |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Behemoth! | James Newton Howard, Michael Giacchino and others |
| 8 | The Invite | Devonte Hynes |
| 9 | Wild Horse Nine | Carter Burwell |
| 10 | Toy Story 5 | Randy Newman |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Artificial | Damon Albarn |
| 12 | Ray Gunn | Michael Giacchino |
| 13 | Ink | Daniel Pemberton |
| 14 | Digger | Cosmo Sheldrake |
| 15 | Werwulf | Robin Carolan |
Frontrunner: Goransson, who won this Globe for Oppenheimer and reunites with Nolan. Zimmer won for the first Dune. Behemoth!, about a former child prodigy cellist, credits a long roster of composers, and its fate depends on whether voters see it as one score or a collage.
Best Original Song

| Rank | Song | Film (Songwriters) |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | “I Knew It, I Knew You” | Toy Story 5 (Taylor Swift) |
| 2 | “This City May Have Chewed Me Up (But It Hasn’t Spit Me Out)” | The Debut (Jesse Eisenberg) |
| 3 | “Shape of a Woman” | The Devil Wears Prada 2 (Lady Gaga) |
| 4 | “When I’m Home” | The Odyssey (James Blake and Travis Scott) |
| 5 | “La Nieve” | La Bola Negra (Guitarricadelafuente and Raul Refree) |
| 6 | “On Video” | Primetime (Phoebe Bridgers) |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | “Save the Day” | Hoppers (SZA) |
| 8 | Title to be announced | Wildwood (Colin Meloy) |
| 9 | “By Any Means” | By Any Means (Diane Warren) |
| 10 | “Draw You Out” | The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (Noah Kahan) |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | “How to Write a Song Without You” | Power Ballad (John Carney) |
| 12 | Title to be announced | Behemoth! (Lukas Frank) |
Frontrunner: Taylor Swift. Swift wrote her first original song for Pixar, and the Globes rarely pass up a superstar in this category. Eisenberg’s showstopper from The Debut is the real threat, because it comes from inside the story rather than over the end credits. Lady Gaga is a former winner here for A Star Is Born.
Best Motion Picture, Animated

| Rank | Film | Studio |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | Toy Story 5 | Pixar |
| 2 | Wildwood | Laika |
| 3 | Ray Gunn | Netflix |
| 4 | Hoppers | Pixar |
| 5 | Tangles | Independent Film Company |
| 6 | Iron Boy | Sony Pictures Classics |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Forgotten Island | DreamWorks Animation |
| 8 | Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom | GKids |
| 9 | In Waves | Netflix |
| 10 | Steps | Netflix |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Hexed | Walt Disney Animation Studios |
| 12 | The Super Mario Galaxy Movie | Illumination / Universal Pictures |
| 13 | Minions & Monsters | Illumination / Universal Pictures |
| 14 | Goat | Sony Pictures Animation |
| 15 | The Cat in the Hat | Warner Bros. Animation |
Frontrunner: Toy Story 5, though this is closer than it looks. Wildwood is billed as the longest stop-motion feature ever made at 132 minutes, and it is Laika’s first PG-13 film. Laika has beaten Pixar at the Globes before, when Missing Link upset Toy Story 4 in 2020. Wildwood premieres at the BFI London Film Festival on October 11 and opens in theaters October 23. Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn reaches Netflix December 18.
Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement

| Rank | Film | Distributor |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | The Odyssey | Universal Pictures |
| 2 | Michael | Lionsgate |
| 3 | Spider-Man: Brand New Day | Sony Pictures |
| 4 | Toy Story 5 | Pixar |
| 5 | Project Hail Mary | Amazon MGM Studios |
| 6 | Obsession | Focus Features |
| 7 | The Devil Wears Prada 2 | 20th Century Studios |
| 8 | Mr. Irrelevant | Paramount Pictures |
| Next in Line | ||
| 9 | Avengers: Doomsday | Marvel Studios |
| 10 | Dune: Part Three | Warner Bros. |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | The Super Mario Galaxy Movie | Illumination / Universal Pictures |
| 12 | Hoppers | Pixar |
| 13 | Disclosure Day | Universal Pictures |
| 14 | The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping | Lionsgate |
| 15 | Godzilla Minus Zero | GKids |
Frontrunner: The Odyssey. Barbie, Wicked and Sinners won this award in its first three years, and all three were hits that were also serious awards players. The Odyssey is the only film on this list that fits that description.
Nothing reaches this ballot automatically. Studios have to submit, and in 2025 the Dune: Part Two team chose to skip this category. Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three will both qualify on presales, but neither is guaranteed to enter.
Best Motion Picture, Non-English Language

| Rank | Film | Country |
|---|---|---|
| Predicted Nominees | ||
| 1 | La Bola Negra | Spain |
| 2 | Fjord | Romania |
| 3 | Minotaur | France |
| 4 | Possible Love | South Korea |
| 5 | Woman Unknown | Denmark |
| 6 | All of a Sudden | Japan |
| Next in Line | ||
| 7 | Godzilla Minus Zero | Japan |
| 8 | Fatherland | Poland |
| 9 | La Gradiva | France |
| 10 | Iron Boy | France |
| Other Contenders | ||
| 11 | Rose | Austria |
| 12 | Coward | Belgium |
| 13 | Bunker | U.S. / Spain |
| 14 | Tenzing | U.S. / Nepal |
| 15 | Everytime | Germany |
Frontrunner: La Bola Negra, Spain’s Oscar submission and the most decorated non-English film of the year. Fjord won the Palme d’Or, Minotaur won the Grand Prix at Cannes and Woman Unknown won the Golden Lion at Venice. Lee Chang-dong’s Possible Love took Venice’s Grand Jury Prize.
Godzilla Minus Zero is the wild card. Its predecessor won the Oscar for visual effects, and the Globes do not require a film to be its country’s official selection.
Projected Nomination Leaders
Based on our Golden Globes 2027 predictions, The Odyssey leads with 10 nominations. The Debut follows with seven, The Invite with six, and Wild Horse Nine and La Bola Negra with five each. Fjord, Michael, Project Hail Mary and The Devil Wears Prada 2 each land four.
We will update these picks as the genre submissions come in ahead of the October 30 deadline.
Where the Market Stands
Nomination markets are already open in every major film category, and traders largely agree with us at the top. The Odyssey and La Bola Negra trade as near locks in drama, and Nolan is the safest name in the director race. Wild Horse Nine, The Invite and The Debut are all heavily favored on the comedy side. Club Kid is priced well ahead of Project Hail Mary and Michael, which still need their studios to choose comedy.
Where we part ways is just as telling. Traders treat Elsinore as a long shot for best drama and Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s All of a Sudden as a coin flip, a sign they expect non-English films to crowd the top category. In drama actress, Virginie Efira and Renate Reinsve lead, while Lea Seydoux barely registers. Wildwood trades ahead of Toy Story 5 in animation, and Brad Pitt sits as an underdog in comedy actor despite his history with Cliff Booth.
Those gaps are the ones to watch between now and December 7. See where every Golden Globe nomination market stands right now, updated live, on Kalshi.
