The Hunting Wives standout signs on to The Housemaid’s Secret, joining a cast that already includes Sydney Sweeney, Kirsten Dunst and a returning Michele Morrone, with Paul Feig back behind the camera.
Lionsgate is deepening the bench on its follow-up to one of last year’s more unexpected hits. Brittany Snow, currently one of the scheming ensemble at the center of the twisty series The Hunting Wives, has joined The Housemaid’s Secret, the studio’s sequel to the surprise success The Housemaid. She steps into a cast anchored by returning star Sydney Sweeney and rounded out by newcomers Kirsten Dunst and Paul Anthony Kelly, with Michele Morrone reprising his first-film role as Enzo.
Paul Feig returns to direct, a continuity that matters for a property Lionsgate clearly sees as the start of a franchise rather than a one-off. Sweeney is producing through her Honey Trap banner alongside Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures and Laura Fischer and Feig under their Pretty Dangerous Pictures label. The studio has been open about its ambitions, signaling that it expects to keep adapting Freida McFadden’s best-selling Housemaid novels for years to come, and the assembled talent suggests it is investing accordingly.
The sequel draws from McFadden’s second book in the series and again follows Millie Calloway, the housekeeper who has made a habit of avenging mistreated women in the gilded households she enters. This time Millie takes a position tending a wealthy couple’s city penthouse, and her suspicions ignite the moment she is kept from meeting her employer, Mrs. Garrick, and left alone with the woman’s husband. Twists and misdirection are the genre’s currency here, and the studio is guarding them closely. All that has been confirmed of Snow’s part is that she will play a character named Marybeth, with any further detail withheld to protect the film’s turns.
For Snow, the role continues a genuine resurgence. Since her unsettling work in Ti West’s horror thriller X, she has moved through a run of high-profile projects that includes the Emmy-nominated Netflix limited series The Beast in Me opposite Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys, Netflix’s The Night Agent, and Hulu’s Murdaugh: Death in the Family, all while anchoring the lurid pleasures of The Hunting Wives. The Housemaid’s Secret adds a starry studio thriller to that momentum. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first film, wrote the sequel’s script, and production is set to begin later this year ahead of a December 17, 2027 release.
