Film Independent Spirit Awards

Indie film’s biggest afternoon moved to the Hollywood Palladium — and the arrivals brought the energy with them.

The year’s best indies got their moment in the spotlight Sunday as Hollywood gathered on Sunset Boulevard for the 41st Film Independent Spirit Awards. With Ego Nwodim hosting and awards season in full sprint, the Spirit Awards once again doubled as a reunion for the filmmakers, performers, and creative teams who carried independent film and television through the past year.

This year’s ceremony also came with a new backdrop: the Hollywood Palladium. The longtime Santa Monica Pier setup has always been part of the Spirits’ charm, but the venue shift gave the red carpet a sharper, more city-lit feel while keeping the event’s signature looseness intact. The vibe stayed unmistakably indie — less stiff, more conversational — with a guest list that mixed awards contenders, cult favorites, and the kind of faces you only get when the industry actually shows up to celebrate the work.

Leading the arrivals were Mark Duplass and Jay Duplass, with the Duplass brothers once again looking like the unofficial mayors of the scene. Issa Rae brought her usual ease and polish to the carpet, while Dylan O’Brien continued a strong awards-season run with a clean, confident appearance that had cameras trained on him from the jump. Jenny Slate, Eva Victor, Rose Byrne, Joel Edgerton, Natasha Rothwell, Amy Madigan, Keke Palmer, David Dastmalchian, and Jane Levy were also among the familiar names making the rounds as photographers cycled talent through the press line.

The guest list reflected the breadth of this year’s nominated slate, with stars and filmmakers tied to titles like Peter Hujar’s Day, The Plague, Sorry, Baby, Train Dreams, and Twinless represented throughout the afternoon. And with the Spirits’ film-and-TV split now firmly established, the carpet felt like a true cross-section of what audiences actually watched, talked about, and championed — not just what dominated studio campaigns.

a running look at some of the most notable arrivals from the 2026 Film Independent Spirit Awards red carpet below:

The Spirit Awards red carpet always hits differently because it’s less about spectacle for spectacle’s sake, and more about community showing up for the work. Even with the Hollywood Palladium swap-in, the energy still felt true to the Spirit Awards’ point of view: a place where the same faces you’ve been watching all season can relax a little, reconnect, and let the campaign-version of themselves fall away. If awards season can sometimes feel like a conveyor belt, the Spirits remain one of the few stops that still feels like a real gathering.

And that’s what made this year’s arrivals land. Whether it was the Duplass brothers doing what they always do, or a lineup of performers and filmmakers tied to the most talked-about indie titles of the year, the carpet felt like a snapshot of where the culture is actually moving — not just what studios want to sell. As the season continues to narrow and the conversation turns toward the biggest stages, the Spirit Awards remain a reminder that the future of film and TV is still being built in smaller rooms, by bolder voices, long before it hits the mainstream.
