The Fast and Furious TV series is the franchise’s first live-action show, set to debut in 2028.
The Fast & Furious franchise is finally hitting the small screen in live action. Peacock has given a series order to a Fast and Furious TV series, the first live-action show in the history of the blockbuster car-culture saga, with franchise star Vin Diesel on board as an executive producer. The series is targeting a 2028 premiere.
Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman will write the series and serve as co-showrunners, with Universal Television producing. Daniels most recently ran Peacock’s Ponies and has written for Sons of Anarchy and NBC’s reboot of The Rockford Files. Coleman was an executive producer on 9-1-1: Lone Star. No plot details or casting have been announced, so it remains unclear whether any of the film franchise’s stars will appear.
Diesel framed the show as a response to fan demand. “Over the last decade, we’ve realized that the fans have wanted more,” he said. “They wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories.”
The move gives NBCUniversal’s streamer one of the most valuable brands in its parent company’s library. Since The Fast and the Furious opened in 2001, the films have grossed more than $7 billion worldwide, turning a modest street-racing thriller into one of the biggest film franchises ever made. The series also carried Hobbs & Shaw, a 2019 spinoff with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
It will not technically be the first Fast & Furious TV show. DreamWorks Animation’s Fast & Furious Spy Racers ran for six seasons on Netflix from 2019 to 2021. But this marks the first time the franchise has been developed as a live-action series, and the first time it will live on Universal’s own streaming platform.
The timing lines up with the end of the film saga. Fast Forever, billed as the 11th and final installment of the main franchise, is also set for 2028, which means the TV series could carry the family forward just as the movies wrap up.
