The cast and creators gathered at the Paris Theatre in New York one night before Netflix drops all eight episodes.
Netflix brought the fourth installment of it’s Monster anthology to New York on Tuesday night, with the cast of Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story gathering at the Paris Theatre for the series premiere.
Ella Beatty, who leads the season as Borden, walked the carpet alongside Vicky Krieps, Charlie Hunnam, Billie Lourd, Jessica Barden, Joey Pollari and Oliver Spenceman. Franchise creator Ryan Murphy attended with showrunner Ian Brennan and director Max Winkler.
There was real continuity in the room. Both Hunnam and Krieps are coming straight off Monster: The Ed Gein Story, where Hunnam played Gein himself, and the timing made the night something of a victory lap for him. He arrived two nights after being nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series at the Emmys for that performance.

What It’s About?

The series follows Lizzie Borden as a repressed daughter in a wealthy New England household built on humiliation and psychological cruelty, and her relationship with the family’s rebellious live-in maid. The two escape into a private fantasy of desire, power and revenge. The murders that follow, still officially unsolved, turn Borden into an American icon.
Borden was tried and acquitted of both killings in 1893. The case drew nationwide attention at the time and has never left the culture since, inspiring everything from the schoolyard rhyme to Christina Ricci’s The Lizzie Borden Chronicles and the 2018 film Lizzie with Chloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart.
Who Plays Who?
Ella Beatty leads as Lizzie Borden.

The daughter of Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, it marks her second collaboration with Murphy after making her television debut in Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, and follows her film debut in A24’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

Vicky Krieps plays Bridget Sullivan, the Irish live-in maid the family called Maggie, who became a key witness at the trial.

Charlie Hunnam plays Andrew Borden, Lizzie’s father, one of the two people killed in the family’s Fall River home in August 1892.

Rebecca Hall plays Abby Borden, Lizzie’s stepmother and the other victim.

Joey Pollari plays John Vinnicum Morse, Lizzie’s uncle and, in the historical record, a suspect himself.

Oliver Spenceman plays Stephen, a character invented for the series.

Sarah Paulson appears as Aileen Wuornos in sequences set decades later, with Murphy and Brennan framing Wuornos as having been shaped by Borden’s legacy.

Billie Lourd and Jessica Barden round out the ensemble.
