The Legendary Rob Reiner won an Emmy last night, just nine months after his death.

Rob Reiner won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as business mentor Albert Schnurr on FX’s The Bear, at night two of this year’s Creative Arts Emmys. He prevailed over Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein for Shrinking, Hamish Linklater for Widow’s Bay, Christopher McDonald for Hacks, and Connor Storrie for Saturday Night Live.

It marks the first posthumous Emmy for an on-camera performance since Raúl Julia won for The Burning Season in 1995, a year after his own death. Presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the award on Reiner’s behalf. “We all wish he were here,” she told the crowd, which responded with a minute-long standing ovation.

Reiner died at 78 in December 2025, alongside his wife of more than three decades, Michele Singer Reiner. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been charged in connection with their deaths and has pleaded not guilty. The case remains ongoing.

The win breaks a 48-year gap since Reiner’s last Emmy, taken home in 1978 for All in the Family, where he’d also won the same category in 1974.

That 48-year span between acting Emmy wins surpasses the previous record of 37 years, held by his father, Carl Reiner, who won in 1958 for Caesar’s Hour and again in 1995 for a guest turn on Mad About You. Both father and son set their records in the same category: guest or supporting comedy performance.

A Final Screen Role That Resonated With Audiences

Rob Reiner will forever be remembered across the industry and Comedy. The iconic director behind films like This Is Spinal TapThe Princess BrideWhen Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men, and Countless others.
