Ben McKenzie Says He’d “Be Up For” a ‘The O.C.’ Revival: “It Was a Great Show”

Ryan Atwood is open to the idea of saying “Welcome ‘Back’ To The O.C… B**ch” Fresh off His Critically Acclaimed Cypto Documentary.

Ben McKenzie is weighing in on whether he’d return to The O.C. In a new interview on Australia’s KIIS 1065, McKenzie was asked if he’d be open to “re-doing” the show by returning as one of the dads, a reference to Peter Gallagher’s Sandy Cohen role rather than his own character, Ryan Atwood.

“I don’t know that there has ever been serious talks, but I’d be up for it, sure,” McKenzie said. “Yeah, I think so, under the right circumstances. It was a great show. We had a great time. I learned a lot. I was so young. We were all young.”

The O.C. Still Finding New Fans Two Decades Later

Ben McKenzie also spoke about the show’s staying power with younger audiences. His 10-year-old child, whom he shares with actress Morena Baccarin and who briefly appeared in three episodes of Season 3, “loved it,” he said. “I now have kids come up to me, teenagers, and they talk about what a fan they are of the show. ‘You weren’t even alive when it came out.’ They watch it with their parents.”

McKenzie’s comments follow Mischa Barton, who played his on-again, off-again love interest Marissa Cooper, teasing a possible reunion during a recent interview with RTL.

“There might be a reunion coming up; we’ll see,”

Mischa Barton said.

What Was The O.C., For Those Who Missed It

The O.C. ran for four seasons on Fox from 2003 to 2007 and has since been named one of the best teen dramas of all time by The Hollywood Reporter. McKenzie played Ryan Atwood, a troubled teen from Chino, California, taken in by his public defender, Sandy Cohen, and his family.

Ryan became like a brother to Sandy’s son, Seth Cohen, played by Adam Brody, and formed the show’s central group alongside Summer Roberts, played by Rachel Bilson, and Marissa played by Mischa BartonMischa Barton. The show also helped launch the careers of Peter Gallagher, Kelly Rowan, and Melinda Clarke.

Following The O.C., McKenzie went on to lead the TV series Southland and Gotham. He’s currently promoting his documentary about the crypto industry, Everyone Is Lying to You for Money.
