The Emmy-winning global hit returns August 5 with a new direction, new team, and a familiar sense of optimism.

Apple TV has officially confirmed that Ted Lasso will return for its fourth season on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, marking the long-awaited comeback of one of streaming’s most successful original comedy series.

The new season will premiere with one episode, followed by weekly releases through October 7, continuing Apple TV’s strategy of structured episodic rollout for its flagship titles.

Jason Sudeikis returns as star and executive producer, alongside returning cast members Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift. Season 4 also introduces a new ensemble including Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely.

Season four marks a notable shift for the series, with Ted Lasso returning to Richmond to take on what is described as his most ambitious challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team.

According to Apple TV, the season will explore a new dynamic within the club as Ted and his team are forced to adapt to unfamiliar territory, learning to take risks and “leap before they look.” The premise signals a structural evolution for the series, expanding its focus beyond AFC Richmond’s original men’s squad into a broader exploration of leadership, identity, and reinvention.

Creative Team and Production Expansion

Behind the scenes, season four adds Emmy winner Jack Burditt as executive producer under a new overall deal with Apple TV. Bill Lawrence continues as executive producer via Doozer Productions, alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer.

Sudeikis continues to executive produce alongside returning creative partners Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel. Brett Goldstein also returns in a dual role as writer and executive producer, joined by Leann Bowen. Sarah Walker, Phoebe Walsh, Julia Lindon, and Dylan Marron round out the writing and story team for the new season.

The series remains a joint production between Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television.

A Legacy Already Cemented

Since its debut, Ted Lasso has become one of Apple TV’s defining global successes, breaking records across its initial run and establishing itself as a rare streaming comedy with sustained cultural impact.

The series earned back-to-back Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series for its first two seasons and became one of the most awarded comedy titles in television history, helping solidify Apple TV’s position in the prestige streaming landscape.

Across its run, Apple Original programming has accumulated hundreds of awards and thousands of nominations, with Ted Lasso remaining one of its most recognizable flagship properties.

Looking Ahead

With Season 4, Apple TV is not just reviving Ted Lasso — it is repositioning it. The move into women’s football, combined with a refreshed supporting cast and expanded creative leadership, suggests a series intent on evolving rather than simply extending its legacy.

Whether it can recapture the exact cultural moment of its original run remains to be seen, but the infrastructure around it makes one thing clear: Apple is treating this return as one of its most significant television events of the year.
