The New Boy | Official Trailer | Vertical

In the official trailer for The New Boy, director Warwick Thornton (Samson & Delilah, Sweet Country) returns with a spellbinding vision of colonial trauma and spiritual mystery. The film centers on a remote Christian monastery in 1940s Australia, where a young Aboriginal boy with inexplicable powers is taken in by a renegade nun played by Cate Blanchett.

As the boy’s presence begins to disrupt the strict religious structure of the mission, the film interrogates faith, authority, and Indigenous identity in a land grappling with its past. Blanchett, also serving as producer, delivers a performance of quiet ferocity, while newcomer Aswan Reid anchors the story with captivating stillness and emotion.

Visually evocative and spiritually resonant, The New Boy is a lyrical exploration of otherness and belief—part allegory, part historical reckoning.
