Cannes Film Festival Unveils 2025 Lineup (Updating Live)

The Cannes Film Festival is unveiling the lineup for its highly anticipated 78th edition, which will take place in the picturesque French city of Cannes from May 13 to 24. Last year’s festival was a resounding success, with the Palme d’Or winner “Anora” securing the Oscar for Best Picture. Other notable films that received awards included “Emilia Pérez,” “The Substance,” and “Flow.”

The 2025 event is already shaping up to be a glamorous affair, with a significant presence of Hollywood stars and celebrities. Earlier this week, it was officially announced that Tom Cruise will return to the Croisette with “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning,” three years after the highly anticipated premiere of “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Thierry Fremaux, the Artistic Director and General Delegate of the festival, who is co-hosting the lineup press conference in Paris alongside President Iris Knoblauch, revealed that the festival received a record number of 2,909 submissions. While a few additional films are typically added after the press conference across different sections, including the Competition section, it seems that this year’s festival may have a larger contingent of established U.S. films.

This year’s Cannes festival, which some have described as the first true post-strike festival, is expected to feature a large contingent of established U.S. filmmakers and actors.

As previously announced, Juliette Binoche will preside over the jury, while Robert De Niro will receive this year’s honorary Palme d’Or.
