A classic psychological nightmare returns, reimagined for television with Oscar-winning pedigree and modern menace.
Apple TV+ has officially set a global premiere date for Cape Fear, its highly anticipated psychological thriller series starring Amy Adams, Javier Bardem, and Patrick Wilson. The 10-episode limited series will debut Friday, June 5, 2026, with its first two episodes, followed by weekly releases every Friday through July 31.
The announcement was made during Apple TV’s press event in Santa Monica, where creator and showrunner Nick Antosca joined Adams and Wilson for a conversation unveiling first-look images from the series.
Javier Bardem in “Cape Fear,” premiering June 5, 2026 on Apple TV.
Inspired by John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners — which previously spawned Universal’s 1962 film and the iconic 1991 remake — Cape Fear follows married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, portrayed by Adams and Wilson. Their carefully constructed lives unravel when Max Cady, a violent criminal they helped put behind bars, is released from prison and returns with vengeance on his mind. Bardem steps into the role of Cady, a character immortalized by Robert De Niro in Martin Scorsese’s earlier adaptation.
POPULAR ON THE CINEMA GROUP
The series carries major pedigree behind the camera as well. Cape Fear is executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, both of whom were involved in the 1991 film. Antosca executive produces alongside Alex Hedlund under Eat the Cat, with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey producing for Amblin Television. Oscar nominee Morten Tyldum directs the pilot and also serves as an executive producer.
Patrick Wilson in “Cape Fear,” premiering June 5, 2026 on Apple TV.
The ensemble cast includes CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, and Anna Baryshnikov. Adams and Bardem also receive executive producer credits on the series.
Produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Amblin Television, Cape Fear marks Apple TV’s latest push into prestige psychological storytelling — reworking a familiar title with modern anxieties, star power, and a slow-burn serialized structure.
