Lionsgate
Lionsgate's adaptation of Freida McFadden's hit novel promises a tense, twist-filled thriller just in time for the holidays.
With just days to spare before Christmas, Lionsgate is preparing to unleash one of 2025's most talked-about thrillers. 'The Housemaid,' based on Freida McFadden's best-selling psychological novel, is set to hit theaters on December 19, 2025, after a date shuffle that moved it up from its original Christmas Day release. The highly anticipated adaptation features Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried in lead roles, setting the stage for a suspense-laden story filled with secrets, seduction, and shocking reveals.
In 'The Housemaid,' Sydney Sweeney plays Millie, a woman eager to escape her past and start anew as a live-in housemaid for a wealthy couple. But what begins as a fresh start quickly unravels into a nightmare when Millie discovers that the pristine facade of the Winchester household masks disturbing truths. Amanda Seyfried stars as Nina Winchester, the seemingly elegant and aloof lady of the house, while Brandon Sklenar (It Ends With Us) takes on the role of Andrew, Nina's enigmatic husband. Michele Morrone also joins the cast in a yet-to-be-revealed role.
Directed by Paul Feig (A Simple Favor, Bridesmaids), the film promises to blend his sharp visual style with the dark, domestic tension of McFadden's gripping narrative. The screenplay comes from Rebecca Sonnenshine, whose previous work includes genre-bending storytelling in 'The Boys' and 'The Vampire Diaries.'
