Lionsgate’s gritty thriller pits a violent ex-con and his estranged daughter against a world out to destroy them.

Lionsgate rolled into New York City for a special screening of She Rides Shotgun, the blistering action-thriller starring Taron Egerton and breakout newcomer Ana Sophia Heger. Directed by Nick Rowland (Calm with Horses), the film is based on Jordan Harper’s acclaimed novel and hits theaters August 1, 2025.

In She Rides Shotgun, Egerton stars as Nate, a recently released convict whose violent past catches up to him fast. Marked for death by a vicious gang and a corrupt sheriff, Nate is forced to protect the one person who barely knows him: his 11-year-old daughter Polly. Played with raw vulnerability by Heger, Polly becomes both a liability and a lifeline as the duo embarks on a desperate flight across a hostile landscape. What begins as a survival mission morphs into an unexpectedly tender father-daughter odyssey.

The film is a pulse-pounding collision of violence, loyalty, and redemption, drenched in sweat, gasoline, and emotion. With a screenplay by Harper alongside Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (The Night House), She Rides Shotgun balances white-knuckle action with deep psychological resonance. It’s not just about the scars we carry—but the ones we pass down.

The New York screening drew an impressive crowd, with cast and crew in attendance, including Egerton, Heger, Rob Yang, John Carroll Lynch, and director Nick Rowland. Producers Brad Weston, Collin Creighton, Nate Matteson, and Egerton himself were also on hand, along with co-writer Harper. Notable guests included Joely Fisher, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Lena Hall, and Jordan Harper’s longtime collaborators.\

Shot with grit and grounded intensity, She Rides Shotgun taps into the same DNA as films like Logan, Hell or High Water, and Leave No Trace. It’s a searing blend of action and heart that explores what it means to be a parent—and what it means to survive.

POPULAR ON THE CINEMA GROUP

Produced by Lionsgate and Fifth Season, in association with Waypoint Entertainment, Makeready, and Super Frog, the film marks another bold move for Egerton, who also serves as producer. Ana Sophia Heger’s performance, meanwhile, may well announce her as one of the year’s biggest breakout stars.

As Polly learns to fight, and Nate learns to love, She Rides Shotgun rides the line between bullet-riddled pulp and soulful storytelling. Don’t miss this one.
