A24’s latest romantic comedy sets love, death, and destiny on a collision course—starring Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, and Callum Turner.
Elizabeth Olsen faces the ultimate romantic dilemma in Eternity, A24’s new afterlife-set romantic comedy from director David Freyne. The newly released trailer teases a whimsical and existential journey where love doesn’t end with death—it only gets more complicated.
Premiering this September at the Toronto International Film Festival before a theatrical release in November, Eternitystars Olsen as Joan, a woman who dies and wakes up in a vibrant limbo, granted one week to decide where she’ll spend the rest of her afterlife. But there’s a twist: she must choose between two great loves—her most recent husband Larry (Miles Teller) and her long-lost first love Luke (Callum Turner).
“A lot has happened in a week,” Joan tells Larry in the trailer. “You died. I died. I’ve just been reunited with both of my dead husbands, and I have to pick where to spend eternity.”
The premise is ripe for screwball comedy and emotional introspection, and the film’s ensemble cast only heightens its appeal. John Early, Olga Merediz, and Academy Award-winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph round out the cast, bringing heart and humor to the surreal storyline.
Eternity was penned by Freyne and Pat Cunnane, whose original script made the 2022 Black List. Produced by Tim and Trevor White, the film blends classic romantic tropes with an offbeat, philosophical twist—earning comparisons to Billy Wilder comedies and A24’s penchant for genre-defying storytelling.
The film marks a charming return to the genre for Olsen, whose recent work includes The Assessment and His Three Daughters. Teller, fresh off The Gorge and the upcoming Michael biopic, and Turner, known for Masters of the Air, bring charisma and chemistry to the metaphysical love triangle.

During an earlier interview with Extra, Olsen teased the tone of Eternity: “It’s real fun...a callback to Billy Wilder films. I think it’s gonna be a special romantic comedy that we’re all really proud of.”
With its bold concept and luminous cast, Eternity looks poised to join the ranks of A24’s most beloved genre blends.
