The dark comedy about a teacher who locks a disruptive student in her home arrives on digital after its September theatrical run.
Saoirse Ronan‘s darkest role yet is about to arrive at home. Bad Apples, the pitch-black classroom satire that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025, will be available to buy or rent on digital starting Tuesday, Nov. 3, from Republic Pictures and Paramount.
The four-time Oscar nominee plays Maria, a primary school teacher trying to inspire a class of 10-year-olds while being undone by one wildly disruptive student. As her career wobbles and the child’s behavior spirals, a string of bad decisions ends with Maria accidentally locking this bad apple in her home. Then something terrible happens: the class starts thriving, the staff and parents are thrilled, and Maria has to decide how far she is willing to go to keep it that way.
A Festival Favorite

Bad Apples has been building a following for more than a year. After its TIFF world premiere in September 2025, it opened the San Sebastian International Film Festival in its New Directors section and played in competition at the BFI London Film Festival. It reached theaters in the U.S., the U.K. and Ireland on Sept. 18, 2026, and holds an 83 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers singling out Ronan’s performance and the film’s nerve.
For Ronan, it is a sharp turn. After a run of prestige dramas, she gets to play a woman making terrible choices in a comedy that dares the audience to keep laughing. Eddie Waller and Nia Brown have drawn praise alongside her, and the cast also includes Jacob Anderson, best known for Game of Thrones and Interview with the Vampire.
