The Margot Robbie name change surfaced in U.K. records for LuckyChap, the company she runs with her husband.
The Margot Robbie name change is official, at least on paper. Records filed with Companies House, the U.K.’s official registry of companies, now list the Barbie star as “Margot Elise Ackerley,” taking the surname of her husband, producer Tom Ackerley.
The update appears in the filings for LuckyChap Entertainment Limited, the production company Robbie and Ackerley founded in 2014. A change of details for Robbie as a person with significant control was filed on September 21, followed by an updated director’s record on September 22 and the company’s annual confirmation statement on September 23. Both changes of details are dated January 12, 2026, which suggests the name change itself took effect earlier this year and was only recorded in the company filings this month.
The register of people with significant control, which identifies who owns and controls a U.K. company, now names her as Ms Margot Elise Ackerley, holding 75 percent or more of LuckyChap’s shares and voting rights. Before the update, the company’s records listed her as Margot Elise Robbie.
Professionally, nothing appears to be changing. There has been no announcement from Robbie, and the name she has built one of Hollywood’s most powerful careers on remains the one on posters, credits and awards ballots. Plenty of actors keep a professional name that differs from the one on their legal documents.

The timing is notable. Robbie and Ackerley married in December 2016, which means the couple will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in just over two months. They met on the set of the World War II drama Suite Francaise, where Ackerley worked as an assistant director, and launched LuckyChap together the following year with their friends Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara.
LuckyChap has since become one of the most successful independent production banners in the business. Its credits include I, Tonya, which earned Robbie her first Oscar nomination, Emerald Fennell‘s Promising Young Woman and Saltburn, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which became the highest-grossing film of 2023 and earned Robbie a best picture nomination as a producer. This year, Robbie reunited with Fennell to star in and produce Wuthering Heights.
Robbie has not commented publicly on the change.
