‘Onslaught’ Premiere Had Everyone: Adria Arjona, Jason Momoa, Drew Starkey, and… Ari Kytsya?

Onslaught held its Los Angeles premiere this week at Regal L.A. Live, and the carpet had the feel of a genuine event rather than a routine promotional stop. Adria Arjona led the arrivals alongside co-stars Drew Starkey, Dan Stevens, Reginald VelJohnson, and Michael Biehn, with director Adam Wingard rounding out the group.

Arjona was joined by Jason Momoa, her real-life partner. The couple appeared particularly smitten as they walked the carpet. Turing the premiere into as much a couple’s outing as an industry showcase.

The carpet drew more than the cast alone. Yung Gravy and Ari Kytsya also turned out for the premiere. That kind of crossover attendance maybe A24 is attempting to position Onslaught with a broader demongraohic or younger audiences.

Arjona was joined by Jason Momoa, her real-life partner and fellow DC Universe co-star, Momoa was recently on the big screen in Supergirl, playing Lobo. Arjona is set to join the Superman universe in 2027’s Man of Tomorrow, with a role still under wraps. The James Gunn-directed film recently wrapped principal photography.

What’s Onslaught About?

Adria Arjona leads the film as Celeste, a former Army sniper living in a trailer park. She has to protect her family after a squad of genetically engineered super soldiers escapes a secret military facility. It’s a premise built for exactly the kind of visceral, character-grounded action Wingard has made his name on. Arjona’s involvement extends beyond the lead role, too. She also serves as an executive producer on the project.

A Loose Sequel To A Genre Cult Favorite

The filmmaking pedigree behind Onslaught is where things get genuinely interesting for longtime genre fans. Wingard directs from a script by longtime collaborator Simon Barrett, reuniting a partnership that produced You’re Next, The Guest, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

More notably, Onslaught is set in the same town as The Guest, a connection Wingard has described as making it a loose sequel, though not a direct one. It’s the kind of connective tissue that rewards longtime fans without requiring anyone to have seen the earlier film first, a low-pressure form of world-building that’s become something of a Wingard-Barrett signature.

A Stacked Cast, And A Surprising Villian

The supporting cast rounds out into a genuinely stacked ensemble; with Dan Stevens as Hans Kammler. Rebecca Hall plays Hanna Kammler, while Eric Wareheim as Kovacks, Reginald VelJohnson as Josiah, and Michael Biehn plays Baylor. Meanwhile, Outer Banks star Drew Starkey plays Cyrus.

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira makes his feature acting debut as The Butcher, casting that suggests Wingard is leaning into physical, larger-than-life presence alongside the film’s more traditional dramatic talent.

What The Market’s Saying?

With the premiere behind it and the September 4 release approaching for A24‘s latest film. The industry has already started pricing how Onslaught lands critically. The current read shows real confidence in the mid-range, holding steady through the high 50s and low 60s, before thinning out considerably as the bar climbs into the mid-60s and beyond.

On the other hand, this is the shape typical of a genre film meant to satisfy its core audience. Without necessarily sweeping broader critical consensus. Reviews are still to come, and there’s real room for those numbers to move before wide release settles the question.
