It’s Also Closing In On ‘Avengers: Endgame’ For The No. 2 Domestic Spot Of All Time.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day keeps winning at home and abroad, and the numbers are starting to look genuinely historic. The film earned $39 million domestically and $70 million overseas this weekend, its fourth in theaters, taking the No. 1 spot on both leaderboards for a fourth straight week.
Domestically, the film’s total now sits at $854.9 million through Sunday. That number just pushed Brand New Day past 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home to become the third highest-grossing domestic release of all time. It’s now just a few million short of Avengers: Endgame’s $858.37 million domestic haul, a mark it should clear within days to become the No. 2 domestic release ever, and the top-grossing Marvel film in North American history.
Titanic’s Spot Is About To Change Hands

Globally, Brand New Day has crossed $2.22 billion, currently sitting at No. 6 all-time. That puts it just behind Titanic’s $2.26 billion at No. 5, and Ne Zha 2’s $2.27 billion at No. 4. Given the pace of the last four weekends, Brand New Day is likely to pass Titanic within days, then set its sights on Ne Zha 2 shortly after.
James Cameron’s box office legacy remains untouchable in the biggest picture. His Avatar was the first film ever to cross $2 billion globally, back in 2009, and still sits at No. 1 with $2.92 billion. Avengers: Endgame holds No. 2. Avatar: The Way of Water holds No. 3 with $2.33 billion. Cameron has directed three of cinema’s five biggest global releases ever, an extraordinary share of the very top tier. But Titanic’s specific place in that club, the No. 5 or No. 6 slot depending on the week, is exactly what Holland’s film is now closing in on.
The Odyssey Holds Steady, But Stalls At Home

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey held the No. 2 global spot for a fourth straight week, adding $87.5 million in its sixth week in theaters. Its global total now stands at $1.44 billion, Nolan’s highest-grossing film ever by a wide margin. Domestically, though, the film slipped from No. 2 to No. 3, overtaken by a strong new horror opening.
Insidious Beats Projections, Mutiny Falls Short

Insidious: Out of the Further opened to $25.3 million domestically, beating early projections and topping The Odyssey’s$19.5 million sixth-week haul.
The film is drawing a 58% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, the second-best in the franchise’s history, alongside a series-best 70% audience score. Its CinemaScore grade came in at a more middling C+. Overseas, the film opened to $35 million.
Jason Statham’s Mutiny landed with less momentum, opening to $7.5 million against an estimated $40 million budget. The all-star comedy ensemble Spa Weekend, starring Anna Faris, Michelle Buteau, Leslie Mann, and Isla Fisher, opened stronger relative to its size, earning $3 million domestically on a $20 million budget, plus another $2.2 million internationally.
What’s Coming Next Weekend

The overall 2026 domestic box office has now crossed $7 billion, running 20.4% ahead of 2025’s pace through the same point in the year. Next weekend brings fresh competition for both Brand New Day and The Odyssey.
Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars, led by Jacob Elordi and Margaret Qualley, opens alongside the long-shelved Coyote vs. Acme and the horror title Buddy, giving audiences a genuinely crowded new slate to choose from heading into September.
