Hollywood’s awards season momentum hit full stride as film and television’s biggest names arrived in style at the Critics Choice Awards.

The 31st Critics’ Choice Awards unfolded at Los Angeles’ Barker Hangar, transforming the venue into an early barometer for how the rest of awards season may shape up. With Chelsea Handler returning to host, the ceremony once again leaned into its reputation as one of the most accurate predictors of Oscar success, drawing an A-list crowd across both film and television.

This year’s ceremony also marked an evolution for the organization, introducing four new categories designed to reflect how the industry is changing: Best Variety Series, Best Stunt Design, Best Casting and Ensemble, and Best Sound. The additions underscore a growing recognition of collaborative and technical achievements that often define the year’s most influential projects.

The red carpet reflected that same sense of range and ambition. Nominees and presenters spanning prestige cinema, streaming standouts, and blockbuster entertainment made appearances throughout the evening. Among those photographed were Michael B. Jordan, Teyana Taylor, Ariana Grande, Owen Cooper, Kathy Bates, Skye P. Marshall, Jacob Elordi, Elle Fanning, Renate Reinsve, Sarah Snook, Ethan Hawke, Mia Goth, Paul Mescal, Odessa A’zion, Hannah Einbinder, Denée Benton, Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, Lee Byung-hun, Jeff Goldblum, and Jimmy Kimmel, each bringing their own awards-season energy to the carpet.

On the film side, Sinners entered the night as the clear frontrunner, earning 17 nominations and positioning itself as one of the most heavily recognized titles in recent Critics Choice history. The film landed in Best Picture contention and received major acting recognition for Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, and Miles Caton. Director Ryan Coogler was acknowledged for both his directing and writing, while the film also scored across multiple craft categories, signaling broad industry support well beyond performance alone.

Close behind was One Battle After Another, which emerged as a formidable challenger with 14 nominations, reinforcing its status as one of the year’s most critically embraced films and a major presence across multiple categories.

Television competition proved just as intense. Adolescence led the field with six nominations, driven largely by a sweeping presence in acting categories that highlighted the depth of its ensemble. The series quickly established itself as the title to beat in the limited series race. Meanwhile, Nobody Wants This followed closely with five nominations, cementing its breakout status in a crowded television year.

As awards season continues to accelerate, the Critics’ Choice Awards once again served as a snapshot of the industry’s priorities — not just in who may win trophies in the weeks ahead, but in which films and series are shaping the broader cultural conversation.
