Marvel Studios has released the first official trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, teasing Robert Downey Jr.’s debut as Doctor Doom and assembling one of the largest superhero casts ever put on screen.

Marvel has officially unveiled the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, offering fans their clearest look yet at the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the long-awaited arrival of Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom.

After months of speculation, the trailer confirms that Downey’s return to Marvel isn’t as Iron Man, but as Doctor Doom, arguably the most iconic villain in Marvel Comics history. While Marvel keeps much of Doom’s role shrouded in mystery, the footage makes one thing abundantly clear: the MCU’s next great threat is unlike anything Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have faced before.

“Something’s coming, something we may not be able to deter,” Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier warns early in the trailer, setting an ominous tone before adding that the heroes will soon face “an unthinkable decision.”

That warning echoes throughout the footage as familiar faces from nearly every corner of Marvel’s cinematic universe prepare for what appears to be the franchise’s largest crossover event since Avengers: Endgame.

Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, who admits the heroes will need “a miracle” to stop Doom. That miracle seemingly arrives with the surprise return of Chris Evans, making his first appearance in the MCU since Steve Rogers passed the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson at the conclusion of Endgame in 2019.

The trailer quickly expands beyond the original Avengers, showcasing an enormous roster that pulls together characters from Marvel Studios, Fox’s former X-Men universe and the Fantastic Four.

Anthony Mackie returns as Captain America alongside Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, Letitia Wright’s Shuri, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and David Harbour’s Red Guardian. Members of the Thunderbolts also appear throughout the footage, further tying Marvel’s recent projects into what looks to be the MCU’s next defining event.

The trailer also embraces Marvel’s multiversal ambitions by bringing back several legacy X-Men actors. Patrick Stewart reprises Professor X alongside Ian McKellen’s Magneto, James Marsden’s Cyclops, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, reuniting much of Fox’s original mutant lineup for the first time within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel’s First Family also takes center stage.

Pedro Pascal appears as Reed Richards, joined by Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm ahead of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Their inclusion signals that Marvel is wasting little time integrating the Fantastic Four into the larger MCU following their standalone debut.

The trailer also features Tenoch Huerta’s Namor, Channing Tatum’s Gambit, Winston Duke’s M’Baku, Danny Ramirez’s Falcon, Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost, Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent and Lewis Pullman, highlighting just how expansive the ensemble has become.

Directing duties once again fall to Joe and Anthony Russo, who return to Marvel after helming Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Collectively, the four films grossed more than $7.7 billion worldwide and remain among the highest-grossing comic book movies ever released.

The Russos were officially announced as directors of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars during San Diego Comic-Con 2024, marking their long-awaited return to the franchise after stepping away following Endgame.

Marvel first revealed the film’s sprawling cast during an hours-long livestream event in March 2025, confirming appearances from both MCU veterans and legacy Marvel actors. The strategy immediately fueled speculation that Doomsday would become Marvel’s most ambitious crossover to date, and the first trailer appears to validate those expectations.

While the footage keeps the overall story largely under wraps, the emphasis is less on individual heroes than on the unprecedented scale of the conflict ahead. Doctor Doom’s arrival appears poised to reshape the Marvel Cinematic Universe in much the same way that Thanos defined the Infinity Saga, with Avengers: Doomsday serving as the first chapter in what will culminate with Avengers: Secret Wars.

For Marvel Studios, the trailer represents more than another blockbuster preview. After a period of mixed critical and commercial reception across several recent releases, Avengers: Doomsday carries the weight of reestablishing the franchise as Hollywood’s premier event cinema. Bringing together the Avengers, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and Robert Downey Jr. in an entirely new role is about as strong a statement as Marvel could make.

Whether that translates into another cultural phenomenon remains to be seen, but if the trailer is any indication, Marvel is betting that nostalgia, legacy characters and one of comics’ greatest villains will usher in a new era for the MCU.
