Neon-Colored First Trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn’s ‘Her Private Hell’ Starring Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton Drops Ahead of Cannes Premiere

'Her Private Hell' Cannes Film Festival/ NEON

Neon has released the first trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn’s Her Private Hell, a neon-drenched sci-fi thriller starring Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton ahead of its Cannes premiere.

Neon has unveiled the first trailer for Her Private Hell, the latest film from Nicolas Winding Refn, just hours before its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

The trailer leans heavily into Refn’s signature neon-drenched visual style, teasing a futuristic, hyper-stylized metropolis where multiple intersecting storylines unfold across a fractured entertainment landscape.

The film stars Yellowjackets breakout Sophie Thatcher alongside Riverdale actor Charles Melton, anchoring a cast that moves through a surreal narrative centered on a group of actresses gathered at a luxury hotel to film a Barbarella-style production. As production begins, the world outside grows increasingly unstable, with a serial killer known as “Leather Man” targeting women across the city.

The contrast between artificial glamour and escalating violence forms the core tension of the film’s premise, with Refn once again exploring themes of performance, identity, and stylized brutality within a heightened cinematic universe.

POPULAR ON THE CINEMA GROUP

Refn returns to Cannes with significant festival history behind him, having won Best Director for Drive in 2011 following a 15-minute standing ovation at its premiere — one of the festival’s most talked-about receptions of the modern era.

That film, starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, and Oscar Isaac, cemented Refn’s reputation for blending arthouse aesthetics with genre-driven storytelling, a sensibility that appears fully intact in Her Private Hell.

Neon will release Her Private Hell theatrically on July 24, with a wide rollout planned across approximately 800 to 1,200 theaters.
