The legendary West Village venue reopens with a star-studded week of screenings, performances, and conversations.
A24 is bringing new life to one of New York City’s most historic stages. This September, the studio will reopen the 100-year-old Cherry Lane Theater in the West Village with a weeklong celebration featuring Spike Lee, Sofia Coppola, Brandi Carlile, Jerrod Carmichael, Jodie Foster, and Michael Shannon.
The Cherry Lane, first opened in 1924, was purchased by A24 in 2023 after years of financial struggles threatened its survival. The company has since renovated the venue and partnered with the team behind Frenchette to add a restaurant and bar, establishing the theater as both a creative hub and a cultural gathering spot.

The reopening will showcase the theater’s future as a space for both stage and screen. Natalie Palamides’ one-woman show Weer will kick off a five-week run beginning September 20, while Sofia Coppola will host an ongoing film series, “Sundays with Sofia,” that combines screenings and discussions. The first event, on September 14, features Adrian Lyne’s Foxes followed by a conversation with Coppola and Jodie Foster, and will culminate in a celebratory block party.

With the Cherry Lane reopening, A24 is solidifying itself as not just a studio but a patron of live culture, reviving a century-old institution for a new generation of audiences.
