Jude Law and Jason Bateman take on brotherhood, betrayal, and the chaos of New York nightlife in Netflix’s new limited series Black Rabbit.
The velvet ropes are about to be pulled back on Black Rabbit, Netflix’s upcoming drama that promises equal parts prestige storytelling and high-octane intrigue. Starring Jude Law and Jason Bateman, the series invites viewers into the pressure-cooker of Manhattan’s nightlife, where ambition burns hot, loyalty is fleeting, and family ties can unravel just as quickly as they bind.

Law steps into the role of Jake Friedkin, the charismatic mastermind behind Black Rabbit, a nightclub and restaurant positioned as the most exclusive haunt in New York City. He’s polished, persuasive, and a figure who thrives under the glow of neon. But when his brother Vince, played by Bateman, unexpectedly returns to the business, the fragile empire Jake has built begins to tremble. Old traumas resurface, old debts are called in, and the brothers’ volatile love-hate dynamic threatens to undo them both.
“It’s really about these brothers who love each other but don’t match,” Bateman explained in an interview with Tudum. “Everybody’s either got a sibling or a friendship where you love being around that person, but they’re dangerous — they usually get you in trouble, but they’re impossible to resist.” Law echoed the sentiment, noting that the show’s power lies not just in the glamorous setting, but in the combustible intimacy between two men who can’t seem to escape each other.

The world of Black Rabbit comes from creators Zach Baylin, fresh off his Oscar-nominated script for King Richard, and Kate Susman, who partnered with him to build a story where the restaurant at its center isn’t just a backdrop but a living, breathing hub of the city itself. Deals are struck over dinner, rivalries spark in the shadows, and the walls themselves seem to pulse with ambition, envy, and desire.
Behind the camera, Bateman brings his signature directing style to the first two episodes, setting the tone for a show that blends intimacy with tension. He’s later joined by Laura Linney, marking a reunion of the Ozark duo, as well as Ben Semanoff (Yellowjackets, The Old Man) and Justin Kurzel (Macbeth, The Order), who closes out the season. Each director leaves their fingerprints on the story, ensuring Black Rabbit has the scope of a prestige miniseries with the bite of a thriller.
POPULAR ON THE CINEMA GROUP
The ensemble supporting Law and Bateman is equally rich. Cleopatra Coleman steps in as an acclaimed interior designer who reshapes the Rabbit’s look as much as its energy. Amaka Okafor portrays a hungry young chef eager to carve her name into New York’s competitive dining scene, while Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù plays a musician whose influence carries as much danger as allure. Dagmara Dominczyk, Troy Kotsur, Odessa Young, Abbey Lee, and Robin De Jesus are just a handful of the names orbiting the brothers’ fraught universe, each role designed to spark friction and temptation.
For Law, who has long balanced blockbuster roles with more intimate character studies, the project feels like a natural extension of his ability to play men at the edge of collapse. For Bateman, it’s another opportunity to merge his instincts as both actor and director, grounding heightened stakes with performances that feel lived-in and unpredictable. Together, they form a combustible duo that Black Rabbit will live or die on — and if early buzz is any indication, their fire burns bright.
