Prime Video confirms its long-awaited ‘Blade Runner 2099’ series, starring Michelle Yeoh, will finally debut in 2026.

The next chapter of one of sci-fi’s most influential franchises is nearly here. Prime Video has announced that Blade Runner 2099, its upcoming limited series set in the Blade Runner universe, will premiere in 2026.

The update came via Laura Lancaster, Head of US SVOD TV Development and Series – Co-Productions at Amazon MGM Studios, in an internal memo celebrating promotions for executives Kara Smith and Tom Lieber. The memo confirmed that the series, long in the works, is now firmly slated for next year.

Originally greenlit in September 2022, Blade Runner 2099 endured significant delays after the 2023 Hollywood strikes halted production. The series had once been expected as early as late 2025, but filming setbacks pushed its release window into 2026. Post-production is currently underway.

Leading the cast is Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh, whose role is expected to anchor the continuation of the dystopian saga. Joining her are Hunter Schafer, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, and Daniel Rigby. Recurring cast members include Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, and others.

The creative team brings heavyweight pedigree. Silka Luisa serves as showrunner and executive producer, joined by Alcon Entertainment’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger, Tom Spezialy, Michael Green, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra, Isa Dick Hackett, and more. Jonathan van Tulleken directed the first two episodes and also executive produces, while Steven Johnson acts as co-executive producer.

Blade Runner 2099 follows in the footsteps of Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic and Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049(2017), both of which pushed the boundaries of sci-fi visual storytelling while interrogating humanity’s relationship with technology, memory, and identity. With Yeoh leading the cast and a lineup of bold creatives behind the camera, the series has already emerged as one of Prime Video’s most anticipated prestige offerings.

Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see how this new chapter expands the legacy of Blade Runner — a world where questions of consciousness and control remain as urgent as ever.
