The Shelby legacy continues with two new sequel series, executive produced by Cillian Murphy and Steven Knight.

The Shelby family isn’t finished yet. Netflix and the BBC have officially ordered two new six-episode sequel series of Peaky Blinders, ensuring that Steven Knight’s beloved Birmingham crime saga will live on beyond its acclaimed six-season run and upcoming feature film. Both Knight and original star Cillian Murphy return as executive producers, with production set to take place at Knight’s Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham.

The sequels will pick up after the events of the Peaky Blinders movie, currently in post-production and expected in 2026, and will focus on a new generation of Shelbys. According to the official logline, the series will be set in 1953 as postwar Birmingham rebuilds from the devastation of the Blitz. “The race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions,” it reads, “with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

Murphy, who led Peaky Blinders to international acclaim as Tommy Shelby, joins Knight in steering the franchise into its next chapter. “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story,” Knight said in a statement. “The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”

Netflix’s Mona Qureshi added: “There are few modern storytellers to match Steven Knight and we will be on the edge of our seats as he returns to the streets of Birmingham and to the next generation of the Shelby family. Along with our global audience, we are ready to be captivated anew!”

The two-season order marks a major expansion of the Peaky Blinders universe, which has already grown into a global brand with tie-in books, clothing, a video game, ballet productions, and immersive theatrical events. BBC Drama director Lindsay Salt called the show “one of the BBC’s most-loved dramas,” praising Knight’s ability to reinvent the saga for a new era.

While casting details for the sequels have not been announced, Knight confirmed that the series will once again be rooted in Birmingham. The continuation will be produced by Kudos (SAS Rogue Heroes, Grantchester) and Garrison Drama (Peaky Blinders Seasons 1–6, The Peaky Blinders Movie), with executive producers Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, and Jo McClellan joining Murphy and Knight.

The original Peaky Blinders premiered in 2013 on BBC Two before expanding worldwide on Netflix, ultimately concluding in 2022 with its sixth season. Over its run, the gangster drama became a global phenomenon, winning BAFTAs and cementing itself as one of the defining British series of the past decade.

With two new series on the horizon and a feature film yet to arrive, it’s clear that the Peaky Blinders world is only just getting started.
