The Academy has announced the return of Raj Kapoor as executive producer and showrunner for the 97th Academy Awards, with Katy Mullan also returning as an executive producer, and Hamish Hamilton resuming his role as director. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang made the announcement on Monday.

This marks the second time Kapoor and Mullan are teaming up as executive producers, while Hamilton takes on his fifth outing as director of the Oscars, set to air live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 2, 2025.

The production team will also see the return of Misty Buckley and Alana Billingsley, Emmy-winning production designers, as well as David Chamberlin, the executive producer of the red carpet show. A fresh addition to this year’s creative team is Michael Bearden, who will join as the music director. Bearden, an Emmy nominee for Outstanding Music Direction for the Super Bowl LI Halftime Show featuring Lady Gaga, has also served as a music director for the Primetime Emmys and the Grammy Awards.

“We are delighted to announce the return of our incredibly dynamic and creative Oscars team, Raj, Katy, Hamish, Misty, Alana, and Dave,” said Bill Kramer and Janet Yang in a joint statement. “We are thrilled to add the brilliant Michael Bearden to the team as well. Their passion for cinema, combined with their unmatched expertise in live television, makes them the perfect team to create an outstanding show for our global audience on Hollywood’s biggest night.”

Kapoor and Mullan also expressed their excitement: “We are thrilled to lead the Oscars production team once again and work alongside the Academy and Disney/ABC to create an unforgettable night of television for movie lovers worldwide. We hope to continue inspiring new generations and celebrate all the incredible artists who are Oscar-nominated this year.”

Rob Mills, executive vice president of Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment at Walt Disney Television, added: “Last year’s show was a tremendous success, thanks in no small part to the creative vision of Raj, Katy, Hamish, and their teams. We are excited to have them back and can’t wait to see what’s in store for the 97th telecast.”
