‘The Unfinished Film’: Adobe & Sam Finn Launch Global Creative Project With AI-Powered Firefly

Adobe

What happens when you hand off a half-finished film to the world? Adobe wants to find out—with a little help from AI.

What if you could turn someone else’s unfinished idea into your next creative breakthrough? That’s the question Adobe poses with “The Unfinished Film,” a new global initiative launched in partnership with director Sam Finn and powered by Adobe Firefly, the company’s suite of generative AI tools.

Launched alongside Adobe’s latest Firefly expansion — including a brand-new mobile app for iOS and Android — the campaign arrives at a time when Firefly has generated over 24 billion assets globally, with mobile traffic and paid subscriptions both climbing over 30% quarter-over-quarter.

The Firefly app now includes Firefly Boards, a new AI-powered moodboarding platform designed for iterative, collaborative ideation across formats including image and video. Users can experiment with different models — from Adobe to OpenAI, Google, Luma AI, Runway, and more — enabling creative freedom across diverse aesthetic styles, both at the concepting stage and deep into production.

With a clear message that creativity is better when it’s shared, the campaign invites artists, filmmakers, animators, and storytellers from every background to download Finn’s original footage and remix it into something wholly their own. Firefly acts not as the auteur but the assistant—amplifying inspiration and streamlining workflows while keeping the creator firmly in the driver’s seat.

This project is about lowering the barriers to filmmaking and inviting new voices into the creative process, — The film’s unfinished — and that’s exactly the point.
— Sam Finn

The campaign rolls out with a short video narrated by Finn, a filmmaker known for his bold explorations of technology and emotion. Adobe’s Firefly tools — embedded across products like Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and After Effects — power everything from scene generation to sound design. The result is a real-time remix engine for the next generation of creators.

As part of the launch, Adobe enlisted four creators to complete their own versions of The Unfinished Film. The results blend personal style with AI-generated effects to tell entirely new stories from the same source footage.

The Creators Cuts of The Unfinished Film:

Noémie Pino

@pinoemie_

A lifestyle and travel content creator, Pino blended tactile stop-motion claymation with Firefly’s visual tools to deliver a playful, emotionally rich take on the original scene.

I’ve always loved the tangible feel of clay, but the process is incredibly time-consuming—I never imagined I’d be able to bring it to life like this. With Firefly, Photoshop and After Effects I could blend the handcrafted with the digital and turn seconds of motion into something that feels real and emotionally textured.
— Noémie Pino

Phil Cohen

@thepacman82

Cohen, a fashion-forward visual effects creator, leaned into cinematic futurism, combining style and VFX in a sharp, genre-blending sequence.

We’re entering a new era where imagination doesn’t have to wait on budget or big teams. With tools like Firefly, designers can direct, photographers can animate—creativity becomes immediate and accessible. This project is a glimpse of what’s next.
— Phil Cohen

Jad Kassis

@jadkassis

As a brand designer and AI specialist, Kassis explored Firefly’s capabilities across formats. His piece showcases deep emotional resonance alongside tight visual design.

Firefly changed how I use time. What once took days now takes minutes—so I can chase ideas while they’re still alive, still emotional. I’m not just designing frames; I’m directing fleeting moments before they disappear.
— Jad Kassis

Keenan Lam

@keenanlam

Lam, founder of Dropcuts.com, approached the project as both filmmaker and educator, using Firefly to explore practical workflows for creators and students alike.

As someone who’s spent years behind the camera, I’ve always been a perfectionist—so the idea of giving up control to AI was intimidating at first. But this project challenged me in the best way. I realized generative tools like Firefly can extend my creativity, not replace it. They unlock shots and transitions I couldn’t easily achieve on my own
— Keenan Lam

The Adobe Firefly app lets users generate and edit images and video using tools like Text to Image, Generative Fill, Generative Expand, Style Reference, and the upcoming AI sound effects and avatar generation features — all while syncing seamlessly with Creative Cloud tools like Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Every asset created using Firefly includes Content Credentials, ensuring full transparency and ownership.
