Timothée Chalamet to Make History as Both Host and Musical Guest on ‘SNL’

Timothée Chalamet in 'A Complete Unknown' Searchlight Pictures

Timothée Chalamet is set to join an exclusive club on January 25 when he takes on double duty as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Known for his Oscar-contending performance in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, Chalamet is breaking new ground as the first non-professional singer to hold this dual role in 30 years.

In SNL’s storied 50-year history, only 41 individuals have served in both roles on the same night, including musical icons like Paul Simon and Taylor Swift. Among these, only a handful—Lily Tomlin, Gary Busey, and Deion Sanders—were not professional singers or musicians. Chalamet’s inclusion underscores the buzz surrounding his recent portrayal of Bob Dylan, where he performed numerous Dylan classics, including “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “Like a Rolling Stone.”

This opportunity arrives at a pivotal moment in Chalamet’s career. With A Complete Unknown garnering critical acclaim, the 29-year-old actor is positioned as a frontrunner for the Best Actor Oscar. Should he win, he would become the youngest recipient of the award, narrowly surpassing Adrien Brody’s record.

Chalamet is no stranger to SNL, having previously hosted in 2020 to much acclaim. However, this marks a significant evolution in his career as he combines his hosting skills with a musical performance influenced by his work in A Complete Unknown. While Chalamet has expressed a deep appreciation for rap music, fans anticipate his musical set will lean on Dylan’s iconic repertoire.

The January 25 episode will air just after the announcement of the 2025 Oscar nominations on January 17, placing Chalamet center stage during a crucial awards season window. This performance could further solidify his reputation as one of Hollywood’s most versatile talents.
