The Gotham Film & Media Institute has revealed the nominees for the 34th annual Gotham Awards, celebrating independent and global cinema. This year, 39 feature films and 25 individual performances have been nominated across nine distinct award categories, showcasing the incredible diversity and talent within the film industry.
The nominations were unveiled via social media, emphasizing the Institute's commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, allowing cinephiles around the globe to join in the excitement. CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang expressed pride in the nominees, chosen by independent committees of critics, festival programmers, and industry curators, each bringing a unique perspective to the selection process.
"We are proud to announce the nominees for The Gothams, selected by nominating committees who bring their independent perspective to the selection process," said Sharp. "This year’s nominations celebrate voices from across the globe, embodying the growing embrace of international cinema by audiences everywhere. We look forward to celebrating our nominees and our Gotham tributes in a few weeks."
The Gotham Awards have long been recognized as a key moment in the film awards season, providing early recognition and crucial media exposure for groundbreaking storytellers, including directors, writers, producers, and actors. The ceremony highlights the work of filmmakers and actors whose passion, dedication, and creativity push the boundaries of storytelling.
Nominees for The Gothams are selected by committees made up of film critics, journalists, festival programmers, and film curators, ensuring a wide array of perspectives inform the decisions. The final recipients of the awards will be determined by separate juries composed of filmmakers, editors, producers, writers, and other industry professionals, which adds a peer-reviewed element to the awards.
In addition to the main awards, The Gotham Tributes are presented at the ceremony, celebrating exceptional achievements in film. These honors recognize the industry's most influential creators and performers, whose body of work has left an indelible mark on the art form and pop culture as a whole.
The 2024 Gotham Awards will take place live at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on Monday, December 2nd, at 7 pm, bringing together some of the most creative and celebrated individuals in independent cinema today.
