Exciting news for horror fans—Samara Weaving and the creative minds behind Ready or Not are back for the highly anticipated sequel. Ready or Not 2 is officially in development at Searchlight Pictures, and it promises to deliver the same suspenseful, darkly comedic thrills as the 2019 original.
The original film was a massive success, both critically and commercially, grossing over $28 million at the U.S. box office on a modest $6 million budget. Starring Weaving as a newlywed who finds herself in a deadly game of hide-and-seek with her in-laws, Ready or Not gained a cult following for its perfect blend of horror, humor, and social commentary. Weaving’s captivating performance, along with the film’s unique storyline, helped the movie become one of Searchlight Pictures’ widest releases at the time.
Samara Weaving, along with the Radio Silence filmmaking collective—comprised of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella—are set to return for the sequel. While specific plot details for Ready or Not 2 have not yet been revealed, fans can expect the same high-stakes tension and clever twists that made the first film a standout. The writing duo behind the original, Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, will also return to pen the script, ensuring continuity in the storytelling.
Producers Tripp Vinson, Bradley J. Fischer, William Sherak, and James Vanderbilt are all back, with Villella and Tara Farney serving as executive producers. The project is being overseen by Searchlight’s Richard Ruiz and Cornelia Burleigh, with production heads DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas managing development.
Following the success of Ready or Not, Radio Silence has made a name for itself within the horror genre. The collective went on to helm the highly praised Scream reboot in 2022 and Scream VI in 2023, further establishing themselves as leaders in modern horror cinema.
As for Samara Weaving, her career has skyrocketed since her breakout role in Ready or Not. She has appeared in films such as Bill & Ted Face the Music, Chevalier, and Damien Chazelle’s Babylon. While no release date has been set, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of this darkly humorous horror franchise.
Weaving is repped by CAA and 111 Media. Radio Silence is repped by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
