Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy Stand Guard at the Gates of Hell in Apple Films' The Gorge

Apple Films is setting an unconventional tone for Valentine’s Day 2025 with the release of The Gorge. Starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, this high-stakes thriller delves into a shadowy world where romance takes a back seat to survival. Directed by Scott Derrickson and featuring a script by Zach Dean, The Gorge promises a captivating blend of suspense, mystery, and emotional depth.

The newly released trailer, unveiled at CCXP/Brazil Comic-Con, introduces viewers to an ominous winter landscape. A desolate wilderness is split by a massive canyon — the titular Gorge — whose depths are shrouded in darkness and mystery. Teller and Taylor-Joy star as two elite operatives stationed on opposite sides of this enigmatic rift, tasked with protecting the world from an unspeakable evil that lies within. Initially instructed to avoid contact, the two characters defy orders by exchanging notes using high-powered binoculars. This small rebellion leads to a growing bond, just as they uncover the full extent of the threat looming in the Gorge. As the trailer hints, their journey will test both their physical prowess and their psychological endurance. “What’s the truth about this place?” Teller’s character asks, setting the tone for a story that promises twists and revelations.

The Gorge boasts an impressive creative team. Scott Derrickson, known for Doctor Strange and Sinister, brings his expertise in creating eerie, atmospheric worlds. The screenplay, penned by Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War), is steeped in intrigue. Behind the scenes, producers David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger helm the project through Skydance Media, with Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill, and Sherryl Clark contributing through Crooked Highway. Adam Kolbrenner, Zach Dean, and Gregory Goodman round out the production team. Notably, Teller himself serves as an executive producer, marking his continued evolution as a multifaceted force in the industry. Sigourney Weaver also joins the cast, adding gravitas to a lineup that already brims with star power. Her role, though kept under wraps, is likely to be pivotal, given her history of commanding the screen in genre films.

Scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ on February 14, 2025, The Gorge presents an alternative to the typical Valentine’s Day fare. Instead of romantic comedies or sweeping dramas, it offers a chilling exploration of connection in the face of an overwhelming threat. The juxtaposition of isolation and human resilience, set against the backdrop of an unyielding winter wilderness, ensures a viewing experience that will linger in the minds of audiences. With the trailer already generating buzz, The Gorge positions itself as a must-watch for fans of psychological thrillers and atmospheric storytelling. Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy’s on-screen chemistry, paired with Derrickson’s visionary direction, promises a film that’s as thought-provoking as it is heart-pounding.
