Apple TV+ has secured the rights to adapt Marissa Stapley’s best-selling novel, Lucky, as a limited series featuring acclaimed actress Anya Taylor-Joy. The Furiosa and The Queen’s Gambit star will also serve as an executive producer on the series, alongside Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, which is spearheading the production. This adaptation brings together some of Hollywood’s brightest talents, with a creative team aiming to give audiences an unforgettable drama experience.
The limited series comes from Apple Studios, produced in collaboration with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine—well-known for championing female narratives and selecting Lucky as a Reese’s Book Club pick in 2021. The project will be helmed by Jonathan Tropper, who will serve as the series creator and co-showrunner, working alongside Cassie Pappas. Tropper, known for his work on Apple TV+’s See and the upcoming Your Friends & Neighbors, will collaborate with Pappas, who has recently worked on projects like Silo and Griselda.
This is not Anya Taylor-Joy’s first collaboration with Apple TV+, as she also stars in the feature film The Gorge, slated for release next year. Her involvement in Lucky underscores her deepening ties with the streaming platform, solidifying her as a key figure in Apple’s expanding collection of high-profile projects.
Reese Witherspoon Brings Another Book Club Pick to Life
“Reese’s Book Club began with the goal of deepening connections—to the stories, to the storytellers, and to the community we are building,” Reese Witherspoon said in a statement. “It is incredibly rewarding to be able to amplify these female-centric stories and their authors, see our community connect with them, then see them take on a whole new life on screen. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Apple TV+ and the incomparable Anya Taylor-Joy, plus our brilliant creator Jonathan Tropper and his wonderful co-showrunner Cassie Pappas, to bring this compelling series based on Marissa Stapley’s fantastic novel to audiences around the world.”
