Andy Samberg recently revealed that he narrowly avoided an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction while filming a Saturday Night Live music video with Charli XCX. On The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast, the comedian shared some behind-the-scenes moments from the "Here I Go" sketch, which featured himself and the "Brat" singer in a hilariously over-the-top neighborhood setting.

Samberg, known for his comedic antics, explained the creative discussions around his costume choice for the video. "There was a lot of debate about how high my shorts should be," Samberg said. "Charli's shorts were going to be pretty high because that's her style, so I wanted mine to be just as high." At one point, he even considered matching Charli's entire outfit, which included short red shorts and a bikini top, but quickly realized it might not be a great idea. "I don't think anybody actually wants to see that, despite what they might think," he joked.

The costume department eventually cut Samberg's shorts higher, and even then, he wasn't sure if they were short enough. However, as soon as they began dancing for the shoot, Samberg had a close call. "I really almost flopped out," he laughed. "Thank God we didn't make them any higher, because it would have been really bad."

Samberg explained that pushing the boundaries of his costume was partly about trying to match Charli XCX's vibrant energy and commitment to the role. He noted that Charli's dedication was inspiring and added to the overall hilarity of the sketch. "Charli was all in, and I thought, 'I gotta match that!' It was all about creating the funniest dynamic, and those shorts were just part of the magic," Samberg recalled. He added that while it was all in good fun, he underestimated the practical challenges of dancing in such a revealing outfit. "You want to be funny, but you also don't want to traumatize the audience!" he quipped.

The "Here I Go" sketch featured Samberg as an annoying homeowner calling the cops on his neighbors, while Charli XCX appeared as his equally irritating wife. Charli's participation added an amusing twist, with her making a surprise entrance in the second half of the sketch. The digital-exclusive video was part of the Nov. 16 episode of SNL, in which Charli served as both the host and musical guest. The chemistry between Samberg and Charli helped elevate the sketch, turning it into one of the most memorable moments of the night.

Reflecting on the sketch, Seth Meyers said, "It's funny because the role of the wife wasn't originally written into the sketch, but it ended up being perfect. The reveal of Charli crouching behind Andy was hilarious, especially considering she's such a huge pop star." Meyers added that Charli's willingness to poke fun at herself made the sketch work even better. "Having someone like Charli, who is not just a great singer but also game for anything, really adds a lot to the comedy," he noted.

Samberg echoed these sentiments, praising Charli's comedic instincts. "She didn't hold back at all, and that made it so much more fun. Comedy is about going all in, and she totally did that. It was just one of those great collaborations where everyone is on the same page, and it comes through in the final product." He went on to say that the energy on set was infectious, with everyone—from the cast to the crew—getting a kick out of the over-the-top antics. "We all knew it was ridiculous, but that's what made it great. It was pure SNL," Samberg said.

In the podcast, Samberg also shared how the sketch was a throwback to classic SNL digital shorts, which often involved absurd situations, unexpected celebrity cameos, and a healthy dose of self-deprecating humor. "It kind of felt like a return to those early days with The Lonely Island, where we'd just throw ourselves into the most ridiculous scenarios possible and see what happened," he reminisced. "And having someone like Charli onboard just made it even better—she was fearless."
